Kingscliffe to Lennox

A long day but a short distance...

After breakfast in the motel bedroom, [on the Lindroth's dressing table], we loaded up and headed south again. Rod stops very frequently for photo opportunities, he knows the area well and it makes it all the more enjoyable that he does not tell us what may be there. Some are a five minute stop, some entail a rather adventuresome hike in the bush, trails and beaches.

We spent more time than we expected watching the surf-rescue life boat practise going from the shore through a modest surf and then catching the right wave and torpedoing to the shore.

We bypassed the beaches and built up areas on the Gold Coast south of Brisbane by going inland a bit. The whole east coast seems to be a continuous stretch of white sand beaches with gradually sloping beaches, similar to Kihei in Maui. I suspect the beaches around the high-rise apartment areas in the resort areas are more populated than the ones we drop in to take a look at. There is one shot that had two people on a beach that was glorious and was about a kilometre long. Another had a single stroller clad only in a straw hat, [a nudie beach!] Unfortunately the binocs were in the car. Fellette now carries them with her!

An interesting stop on the way today was Byron Bay, a seaside resort town. A bit big for my liking, rather like Lahaina times 10. The lighthouse was interesting though, it was built in 1901 and is the most easterly point in Australia. Rod and Fellette are photographed pointing to Vancouver Island from there. No snakes here.

Unfortunately Doug has "The Crud", [my penalty for travelling I presume], an annoying throat and cough. I napped while the other stalwarts explored the still pristine beaches of Lennox.

Good day, hot and clear, little humidity.
